Jim Abbot, is one of the most remarkable athletes in any sport. He pitched for 11 years in the major leagues despite being born with only one hand! To field his position he would have to quickly remove his glove to throw the ball. One team bunted six consecutive times to test his fielding. He gained his first collegiate win, by transferring the ball and throwing a player out at the plate.
PSALM 139 TEACHES THAT GOD FORMED EVERY PERSON TO BE WONDERFULLY MADE.
You and I may not have been “blessed” with such a visible obstacle to help us succeed – but we all have hurdles to overcome. Psalm 139 teaches that God formed every person to be wonderfully made. When we lean on God’s power to thrive amid obstacles God can do amazing things in and through us.
Abbot was drafted in the first round by the Angels and even threw a no-hitter at Yankee Stadium. Late in his MLB career he was traded to the NL Brewers and had two hits in 21 at bats – hitting with one hand! He pitched a complete game victory in the Olympics to help the US win the Gold Medal. Jim Abbot overcame tremendous obstacles to succeed in baseball and in life.
Eternity Sports would love to hear a story of how God’s power is helping someone overcome an obstacle and thrive.
