Staying on the Cutting Edge

Neal Gosset

As we start off a new year, it’s that time of year when we try to start new and exciting things. Unfortunately for many, these new things don’t last, and we quickly fall back into old habits. However, it is a great time for us to lead our sports ministries and reevaluate. This is a time for us to decide what kind of ministry we desire to oversee. It is also a great time to ask yourself, “am I giving it my all“?

More often than not, some of the best ideas happen when we least expect it.  This is a great time to think of new and fresh ideas that can draw the interest of people who don’t know Jesus. Throughout my career, I’ve heard many stories of people who would have never gone to a church had it not been for the leagues and programs that we run. I am grateful for the many years of being a “front porch” to the church. We all know what that means, a welcome mat to invite people into something exciting.

With that being said, have you thought of new ways to reach people for the new year? The old adage in sports ministry is, we can’t just run leagues and programs that we enjoy. We have to think of all the different people groups that walk this planet and know there’s an appeal for them to know Jesus the way we do. One simple way to do that could be starting a new program. So let’s stay focused on the cutting edge and not be complacent with the same old same old.

I hope this year of 2025 you are challenged to stay fresh and ready as you lead your ministries in a powerful and exciting way. One way to do this is to work with others and Eternity sports is a great resource and channel for you to do that. We are excited to help you think through new and exciting opportunities and we have many resources to help you. Just remember, we are all better together, so let’s make a difference together this year!
