This was not your typical interview. First off, it’s Jennie Finch—the face of women’s softball and an Olympic gold and silver medalist. Jennie lives in Louisiana, where Hurricane Laura had just hit. Driving in to meet Jennie, we could see the destruction everywhere, and in meeting Jennie, it was evident that this weighed heavy on her heart.
Jennie was sweet, kind, and wore her heart on her sleeve. She is a superstar with a humble heart. It was such a pleasure playing catch, talking sports, and learning how to pitch a softball. I thought I would do better, but if the world’s greatest softball pitcher can’t help, then that’s probably on me.
Jennie and her family are still surrounded by destruction after the hurricane, but how they are living out their faith and serving their church and community through these times inspired me and our entire film crew.
Meeting a Southern California girl in the heart of Louisiana was an experience I’ll never forget. Jennie is so down to earth, and I know that hearing her faith journey and struggles will inspire you. I have two daughters, and I would be so proud if they grew up to have a heart like Jennie Finch.
